Desilting Solutions were engaged by Brisbane City Council to desilt approximately 200m of the 3000mm diameter Land St stormwater pipe in Toowong.
Approximately 350m3 of sediment was removed using the Desilting Solutions remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV). Sediment was pumped over 200m from the ROV to a polymer dosing system before it is deposited in GeoTubes which dewatered the material and return the filtrate back to the stormwater line.
Extremely close attention was paid to the management of the process with monitoring conducted daily to ensure the works did not impact the existing water quality.
The effectiveness of the sediment removal was monitored in real time using the ROV’s onboard sonar modules. Analysis of the sonar cross sections showed that the pipe was restored to 97% of it’s design capacity.
