Desilting Solutions was engaged by Brisbane City Council to undertake targeted dredging works at the three inlet areas to Forest Lake as these had become silted up over time.
Due to the well utilised footpath around the lake and the need to undertake works without disturbing the many walkers who use the footpath throughout the day, it was decided to utilise small GeoTubes as a means of waste management. These GeoTubes were positioned along the narrow-grassed area between the footpath and the lake. Furthermore, all equipment was also required to be accommodated in small, grassed areas. This was achieved in all three locations due to the compact nature of the Desilting Solutions equipment and dredge.
The project was required to be completed during the breeding season of the many varieties of water bird that inhabit the lake. The interface between the dredging works and the local wildlife was managed successfully throughout the project by the dedicated Desilting Solutions staff and was aided by the dredges’ unassuming presence.
The project was successfully completed with the extraction of over 120 tonnes of material from each location.
